The 9th European Congress of Virology (ECV)

The European Congress of Virology (ECV) is the flagship scientific meeting of the European Society for Virology, bringing together researchers, clinicians, students, and industry representatives from across Europe and beyond. Held every two years in a different European city, the congress provides a unique platform to present and discuss the latest advances in all fields of virology. The HERVCOV consortium will contribute to the upcoming ECV with a presentation exploring the role of Human Endogenous Retroviruses in COVID-19 and Long COVID. The talk will be delivered by Professor Claudia Matteucci, who will present a multiparametric analysis examining how HERV-W and HERV-K activation may be linked to immune dysfunction, inflammation, and the neurological and psychiatric sequelae observed in post COVID-19 patients. Using clinical, biochemical and immunological markers combined with advanced clustering approaches, the study aims to identify distinct patient profiles and highlight the potential of HERV-based signatures to support earlier disease stratification and personalized therapeutic strategies.
